Fun Girls Night Out Idea – Golf Clinic Followed By Happy Hour

I recently organized a Girls Night Out with a few of my friends and changed it up a little bit by setting up a 1 hour golf clinic first on a Sunday evening and we followed it up with drinks and appetizers at the club’s restaurant.  It was perfect.  Planning this at a nearby course worked out great – close for everyone attending!

I worked with the golf pro that has been teaching my boys for a few years and now, giving me instruction – Mike Schlund at the Trilogy at Power Ranch Golf Course  to coordinate this event.  When I told him we would be heading to Slate Bistro & Bar for cocktails and appetizers after our clinic, he coordinated that for me with Michelle Lund at Slate. This event was offered to the attendees at a flat fee for the 1 hour clinic and food, what a great idea!  We kept our bar tabs separate – which Slate was readily willing to accommodate.

The clinic was held at the driving range and Mike focused on a couple of the basics, grip and posture.  Many of the girls were either new-er to golf or hadn’t golfed in years and were interested in getting back into it.  He gave us instruction then we would have the opportunity to test out our skills on the range.  Given that it was later in the day, we had the range to ourselves – it worked out perfectly!

Because we set this up as a flat fee for each attendee, I pre-ordered all of our appetizers.  Unfortunately, I was having so much fun, I kind of forgot to take photos!  I took a couple of us on the course – but wanted to share what we enjoyed to eat.  I ordered a few of the following appetizers:  Mozzarella Caprese, Pretzel Bites & Queso, Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls, Shrimp Cocktail, and the Chef’s Board complete with Bleu Cheese, Brie and Goat Cheese Served with Dried Fruit, Artesian Crackers, Flatbread and Pepper Jam.

Chef John Brown over at Slate has done a great job revamping the menu at Slate and Ian McConville has been fantastic at managing the restaurant and the updates. You can check out all of the menus over at Slate here.

Everything was fabulous!  If you live in the East Valley, I would highly recommend that you plan one of these events with your girlfriends.  Even if you don’t, contact your local golf course and see what they can do for you!
